The iPhone 14 Pro Max has now been put through a charging test. Results are predictable, with the new Apple flagship showing similar charging performance to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. That, of course, means average charge times of right around two hours.
Following its debut a while ago, Apple's new iPhone 14 series has undergone a host of tests. The latest of them puts the range-topping iPhone 14 Pro Max through its charging paces, in an attempt to see if any improvements exist in that department.
None do. As tested by Charging Labs, the iPhone 14 Pro Max appears to exhibit the same charging characteristics as the phone it succeeds—the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The latest Apple flagship smartphone charges at a peak of 27 W across the board, even when using the company's 140 W MacBook Pro charger. Apple's recommended charger for the iPhone 14 series is, of course, its 29 W charger and that one also delivers peak wattage, with a measured power output of 26.05 W. Higher-rated charging bricks from Apple deliver a similar wattage.
At its very best with a 96 W PD charger, the iPhone 14 Pro Max charges from 0 to 100% in 109 minutes. With a 30 W, charger, however, that figure goes up by an extra 20 minutes. iPhone 14 Pro Max owners will likely have to put up with two-hour charge times on average. Those numbers are indistinguishable from the iPhone 13 Pro Max, which charges to 100% in 106 minutes with the 96 W charger, and 128 minutes with the 30 W charger. Comparatively, the Galaxy S22 Ultra charges from 0% to 100% in about an hour flat.
