The launch of the Moto Razr 2022, X30 Pro and S30 Pro was pushed back to this Thursday, but the company has already revealed detailed specs for the new foldable and the X30 Pro. Here is a preview of what’s coming on August 11.
Motorola has ditched the iconic chin in favor of a larger display. The 6.7” inner display is a 10-bit panel with HDR10+ support, DC dimming and 144Hz refresh rate, the highest on a foldable yet.
The company has devised a gapless foldable design that minimizes the crease. When closer the display is folded in a teardrop shape with an inner radius of 3.3mm.
The hinge can hold the phone in a half open position and Motorola has several use cases for this. You can use it for multitasking, watching a video on the top half while chatting on the lower half. This also enables “tripod” mode, which holds the cameras at a certain angle, allowing you to shoot long time lapse videos or selfies without having to carry extra hardware.
Speaking of cameras, the main module has a 50MP with OIS. This is a 1/1.55” sensor with 1.0µm pixels (2.0µm with 4-in-1 binning). Next to it is the 13MP ultra wide camera (121°), which has autofocus allowing it to shoot macro images too at 2.8cm (about 1”). The selfie camera is punched into the main display, it has a 32MP sensor.
Going back to the external display, this generation it is larger – 2.7” in size – and it lets you swipe between 9 different widgets for at-a-glance info. It can be used to snap main camera selfies as well, of course.
Unlike the two previous models, the Moto Razr 2022 is a proper flagship with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. There will be three memory configurations on offer – 8/128GB, 8/256GB and 12/512GB.
Moving on to the Moto X30 Pro, this is the first phone with a 200MP camera, based on the 1/1.22” HP1 sensor, which offers up to 16-in-1 binning for 2.56µm effective pixel size. The high pixel count will allow for a wide range of lossless digital zoom too.
There is also a 12MP telephoto module with 2x magnification (f/1.6 aperture) that is based on the IMX663 sensor (1.22µm pixels). Also on the back is the ultra wide camera (117°) with a 50MP sensor and autofocus for macro mode. The front-facing camera has a 60MP sensor with 4-in-1 binning.
Like the Razr, the Moto X30 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which can be paired with 8/128GB, 12/256GB or 12/512GB memory. There is a vapor chamber and several copper blocks to guide heat away from the chipset.
The curved 6.7” display on the front has 144Hz refresh rate and 1,500Hz touch sampling rate. This is a 10-bit panel with HDR10+ support and 100% DCI-P3 coverage. It has 1,250 nits peak brightness and DC dimming.
