Automobili Lamborghini has taken the covers off its latest performance SUV, the Lamborghini Urus Performante. As the name suggests, the Urus Performante is based on the highly successful Lamborghini Urus SUV, and the SUV has received several changes which make it faster overall. Ahead of its unveil, the Lamborghini Urus Performante also paid a visit to the legendary Pikes Peak Hillclimb event, and it completed the summit in 10:32.064 seconds, setting a record for the fastest time set by a production SUV. Lamborghini Urus Performante displaced the initial record holder - Bentley Bentayga - and it went over 17 seconds faster than the luxury SUV.
The Lamborghini Urus Performante puts out a devilish 666 hp (657 bhp), which is 16 bhp more than the standard model's 641 bhp. The SUV uses the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 though, and the torque output also remains unchanged at a strong 850 Nm, which is available from as low as 2,300 rpm. The Performante also makes extensive use of carbon fibre components throughout the SUV, helping it shave 47 kgs off the kerb weight. This helps bring the 0-100 kmph time down to 3.3 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds faster than the standard Urus. Also unchanged is the SUV's 306 kmph top speed.
Apart from the increment in power, the Lamborghini Urus Performante has several notable changes over the Urus. The SUV now gets new steel springs which replace the air suspension, lowering the car by 20 mm. The SUV now also gets a 16 mm wider track to provide better handling, & new carbon fibre bodywork also increases the overall length of the car by 25 mm. The SUV also gets a new Aventador SVJ inspired rear spoiler, which increases the rear downforce by 38 per cent. The overall aerodynamic profile of the Urus Performante is also an evolution of the Urus, and the car is now more slippery through air & provides better engine cooling.
The Lamborghini Urus Performante gets an Aventador SVJ inspired rear wing, which adds 38% downforce.
The Urus Performante gets the three driving modes that were present on the Urus - Strada, Sport, & Corse - and also gets a brand new driving mode called Rally, which is specially tuned for loose dirt. This mode allows for a little more oversteer, thanks to the trickery of the anti-roll & damping systems, and allows you to slide the big fat four-wheel drive performance SUV. The
The Lamborghini Urus was the most affordable Lamborghini on sale in India, and it has sold over 200 units in the country. Thanks to its performance which is in the league of supercars while maintaining the tall profile synonymous to SUVs, the Urus is an ideal choice for the Indian roads, which is why it has been the most popular model from the Italian manufacturer. The Urus Performante takes all the things that the Urus did well, and takes them up a notch, and it wouldn't be a surprise of this model achieves even higher success than the Urus.
