The two leaders held the fifth conversation of their presidencies, speaking for over two hours amid tensions over Taiwan, trade

President Joe Biden and Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping held "candid" phone talks on Thursday, with Xi warning the US leader not to "play with fire" on Taiwan, according to Chinese state media.

The virtual summit lasting over two hours took place as Beijing and Washington increasingly risk open conflict over the self-ruling island, which China considers part of its territory.

"Those who play with fire will eventually get burned," Xi was quoted as telling Biden in reference to Taiwan, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency -- using the same language he had employed when they spoke last November.

"I hope the US side fully understand that," Xi told Biden.

"The position of the Chinese government and people on the Taiwan issue is consistent,'" Xi was quoted as saying. "It is the firm will of the over 1.4 billion Chinese people to firmly safeguard China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity."

While this was Biden's fifth talk with Xi since becoming president a year and a half ago, it's getting hard to mask deepening mistrust between the two countries amid a trade war and tensions over Taiwan.

Although we have previously seen renders, today, we get the full reveal, showing off the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 in an array of colors and from every angle.

The leak comes courtesy of Evan Blass who shared it on 91Mobiles and is our best look yet at the upcoming smartphones. Although there isn’t too much to get excited about regarding the design, it is nice to see each of the phones ahead of its official unveiling. From the renders, we can see the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in three colors: black, gold, and what appears to be a dark blue. Furthermore, we get a better look at the Galaxy Z Flip 4 in four colors: black, rose gold, light blue, and Bora Purple. The Bora Purple color was previously announced by Samsung when it introduced a new colorway for the Galaxy S22. It also teased that the color would arrive on future devices.

Samsung has grand plans to promote its Galaxy Unpacked event and recently unveiled a new trailer. It also shared that it will hold physical events in London and New York and that BTS will once again promote Samsung’s smartphones. Also, there will be a special music video from the group, which will be broadcast on screens found in iconic locations worldwide. Although we are still a couple of weeks away from the Galaxy Unpacked on August 10, Samsung has opened up reservations for the upcoming smartphones. Redmi K50i 5G goes official with Dimensity 8100 and 144Hz LCD

 Xiaomi India capped off yet another launch event where we saw the debut of the Redmi K50i 5G and Redmi Buds 3 Lite wireless earphones. The phone is equipped with MediaTek’s Dimensity 8100, a 6.6-inch LCD with an adaptive 144Hz refresh rate as well as a 5,080 mAh battery with 67W fast charging.

The LCD panel on the K50i 5G is of the Fringe Field Switching (FFS) variety and it’s the first Redmi phone with Dolby Vision support. Filmmaker Mani Ratnam Hospitalised In Chennai

 

Celebrated filmmaker Mani Ratnam has been admitted to a Chennai hospital, reported news agency PTI. The 66-year-old filmmaker was admitted to the Chennai hospital reportedly over symptoms of fever. More details about the veteran filmmaker's health are awaited. The PTI report quoted a source and also stated that the filmmaker is likely to be discharged on Tuesday. "Sources said the ace director was taken to the hospital with symptoms of fever today and he underwent a checkup. He had tested negative for COVID-19, and is likely to be discharged today, the source added," PTI stated.

On the professional front, Mani Ratnam awaits the release of the period drama Ponniyin Selvan, the teaser of which released recently and has been creating headlines ever since. The film has been produced by Lyca Productions. The period drama is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's popular historical novel Ponniyin Selvan (The Son Of Ponni).

The film's ensemble cast includes Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the film also stars Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, Prakash Raj, Jayaram, Jayam Ravi and Aishwarya Lekshmi among others. The film is slated for a September 30 release this year.

Qualcomm next-gen Snapdragon Wear chip teased

 

Every time we look, it feels like Qualcomm is coming out with a new chip to power the latest Android phones — like the new Snapdragon we met a few weeks back. But for as frequently as we get a new smartphone SoC, the same cannot be said for the company's processors intended for wearables — it seems like an eternity has passed since it introduced the Snapdragon Wear 4100. Thankfully, a successor appears to be on the horizon, as Qualcomm shares a teaser for what can only be a next-generation wearable chip.

We've been checking out rumors that outlined expectations for Qualcomm's next smartwatch chips for nearly a year now — presumably the Snapdragon Wear 5100 and Wear 5100+, though that branding is far from certain. The chips would be built on Samsung’s 4nm process, which could help deliver significantly better efficiency than the 12nm-based Snapdragon Wear 4100.

Qualcomm may continue using ARM Cortex-A53 cores as it did on the Wear 4100 series, clocked at 1.7GHz, but the move to the new node could extend all-important battery life on future wearables. We eagerly await more details from Qualcomm, but if rumors are anything to go by, better performance can also be expected, thanks to an upgraded GPU, plus support for faster RAM and flash storage.

Battery life could also get some help from the QCC5100 coprocessor for handling background processes, including Bluetooth sync, Wi-Fi connectivity, and notification delivery. As a result, the power-hungry primary cores of the chip wouldn't always need to be active, and efficiency can be stretched by that much more. We could also get an integrated image processor, so wearables capable of facilitating video calls may not be a distant reality.

Since Qualcomm is teasing the chip, this launch sure feels imminent, and we couldn't be more excited about it. Backed by the promise of better battery life and efficiency, the new chip will hopefully find widespread adoption from all the big wearable manufacturers.
